I was very inspired by this film titled “This is Not Photography” featuring the married artists Jerry Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor. Jerry uses photography and an expander in a dark room to create his images and Maggie combines different elements such as photos, props, and editing in Photoshop to create hers. They each have their own aesthetic, but both have a feel of fantasy and whimsy. Jerry will often combine multiple images onto each other, creating a sense of wonder and beauty. Maggie has almost a thematic feel, being heavily inspired by old photos and nature. I could relate with Maggie and her process of creating, I also like that when you sit down to a computer, even if you have something in mind- it often changes forms and become something entirely new. One of my favorite parts was at the end when Jerry was talking about art, and how it’s not something to be learned but something that represents your authenticity and your growth.
